338 Thousand Dollars for Virtual Land

In the past seven days there’s been 338 thousand dollars invested into virtual land for Cryptovoxels and Decentraland. Over 66 percent of that amount came from some big sales for Cryptovoxels plots on OpenSea. With these numbers both virtual worlds keep other games at a distance. Trading card game Gods Unchained is at the third spot with 64 thousand dollars, followed by MyCryptoHeroes and art marketplace SuperRare.
What does this financial investment into virtual worlds mean? At the bare minimum it means that investors and gamblers believe that virtual worlds like Cryptovoxel, Decentraland, Somnium Space and The Sandbox have a chance of reaching a mainstream audience. Because these virtual worlds aren’t created for just a few gamers and some blockchain enthusiasts. Ultimately everybody needs to be able to enter, ideally from any device.
An ideal virtual world isn’t just a virtual world, but it also transitions into the real world. Currently that’s already happening with ownership and value. Blockchain companies are already claiming land in The Sandbox as well. As soon as these virtual worlds are fully launched, it should be possible for Domino’s Pizza to open a virtual shop so that digital citizens can order an actual pizza. In addition these virtual worlds can become an extension of regular web shops, or clothing designers could sell their actual clothes together with a limited edition digital version, an NFT.
This is the potential. This is the reason why people are investing thousands of dollars into virtual land.
